Final Energy Consumption

Scotland has a target to reduce final energy consumption by 12% by 2020 from a 2005 to 2007 baseline.

Although the target year has been reached and reported on, we are continuing to monitor this. Final 2021 data shows that consumption remains below 12%,18.2% lower than the baseline (figure 1).

Total energy consumption in Scotland increased by 2.3% from 2020 to 2021, driven by a 19.0% increase in transport consumption (figure 2). This will be mainly due to the lifting of COVID-19 lockdown restrictions.
