Cereal and oilseed rape harvest: final estimates - 2022

Final estimates of area, yield and production for winter and spring barley, wheat, oats and oilseed rape, for the 2022 harvest.

Cereal production and yield up across all Scottish regions

Cereal production increased across the country from 2021 to 2022 as a result of high yields. This is despite all International Territorial Level 2 regions showing a small decrease in total sown cereal area.

Eastern Scotland saw the largest increase in production, at 13%. This was the result of a 17% cereal yield increase.

North Eastern Scotland experienced the smallest reduction in sown area at 3%. Yield increased by 14%, resulting in an 11% increase in total cereal production.

Highlands and Islands saw a 6% increase in production as a result of an 11% percent increase in yield.

Southern Scotland saw a 4% increase in production and a 9% increase in yield.

In West Central Scotland production increased by 9%. But only around 1% of cereals are grown here and these changes may not be significant.
