Renewable Electricity Generation

Renewable electricity generation in 2023 Q3 has increased compared to the same quarter in the previous year (Figure 1), with 6,868 GWh of renewable electricity generated – an increase of 9% compared to the same period in 2022. This is the most renewable electricity generated in the third quarter in Scotland. However, generation was down 8% over the first three quarters of the year compared to the same period in 2022. This is mainly due to less wind and rain in the first half of 2023 compared to 2022.

Generation from wind sources in the first three quarters of 2023 (Figure 2) decreased 9% compared to the same period in 2022. Generation from hydro sources decreased by 10% over the same period.
