Energy Statistics for Scotland - Q3 2023 Figures

December 2023

Key Points

6.9TWh of electricity was generated from renewable sources in Scotland in Q3 2023 – an increase of 9% compared to the same period in 2022.

Over the first nine months of 2023, generation was down 8% compared to the same period in 2022. This is mainly due to less wind and rain in the first half of 2023 compared to 2022.

Renewable electricity capacity has increased over the past year to 15.0 GW in September 2023, up 1.4 GW since September 2022.

The annual subnational energy consumption statistics are typically published by DESNZ in December. Changes in data supply and processing mean that DESNZ will publish the 2022 consumption year data in January 2024 rather than December 2023, to provide sufficient time for quality assurance. The intention is to revert back to a December publication date for future releases
