Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Equality
The Scottish Government firmly believes that there is no place in Scotland for prejudice or discrimination, and that everyone deserves to be treated fairly, regardless of age, disability, gender, gender identity/reassignment, race, religion or sexual orientation.
We work with a wide range of organisations to promote equality of opportunity and inclusion for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people, including the three national LGBT organisations: Equality Network, LGBT Youth Scotland and Stonewall Scotland.

We also work closely with LGBT communities to develop an understanding of homophobia and transphobia, and the ways in which these issues impact on LGBT people's lives. We facilitate consultation with the community through LGBT organisations and encourage LGBT people to engage with the government to tackle discrimination and prejudice.
The Scottish Government announced a funding package for the LGBT sector of £1.7 million in 2008. This money is being used to commission a series of ten projects through the three national organisations which will help improve the lives of LGBT communities in Scotland, increase access to services, promote equality and celebrate the lives and achievements of LGBT people in Scotland.
