Marine and Fisheries

Marine ScotlandAround one fifth of Scotland's population lives within a kilometre of the sea and billions of pounds are generated by it every year. A quarter of the European offshore wind resource and 10 per cent of its wave power lies here too but Marine and Fisheries isn't just about the sea.

Scotland's freshwater fish populations are of global renown and there is a growing farmed fish and shellfish sector worth around £367 million per year.

Marine Scotland has responsibility for these and other developing marine and fisheries issues in Scotland including the enforcement of marine and fisheries law and world class scientific and research work.
