Latest News

A letter was issued to all Scottish Livestock Keepers on 25 October updating them on the current disease situation. It also provides some of the financial support measures Cabinet Secretary Richard Lochhead announced in parliament on 24 October 2007 such as the establishment of a Scottish Ewe Scheme.

Current position

At 00:01 on 17 October 2007 the Scottish movement ban of FMD susceptible animals was lifted. All FMD general and specific movement licences were revoked at that point and movement of FMD susceptible animals reverted to the pre-3rd of August 2007 movement regime. This includes the 13 day standstill (plus the accompanying exemptions) and the reinstatement of separation agreements. For further information on the situation in Surrey please refer to the Defra website

Sheep Welfare Scheme

A sheep welfare scheme designed to address animal welfare issues which have arisen from the recent outbreak has now been launched.

The Importance of Biosecurity

Livestock keepers are reminded of the importance of good biosecurity and the need to remain vigilant for signs of disease. Any suspicion of disease must be reported immediately to your local Animal Health Office.

Scottish Government FMD Helpline and Text Messaging Updates

The Scottish Government FMD Helpline and FMD text message service are now closed. You should contact your local Animal Health Office for advice on FMD related issues.
