1 The claimant count consists of the people who are claiming unemployment-related
benefits at Employment Service local offices and who have declared that they
are unemployed, capable of, available for and actively seeking work during
the week in which their claim is made.
2 Annual Average.
3 Workforce unemployment rates are calculated by expressing the numbers
of claimant unemployed as percentages of the estimated total workforce (the
sum of employees in employment, the unemployed, the self-employed, HM
Armed Forces and participants on work-related government training programmes)
at mid year.
4 Notified vacancies recorded at Job Centres only.
