1 All timetabled sailings apart from a small number of so-called "relief events", which were agreed with the Scottish Executive- for example, sailings which were cancelled due to bad weather, in accordance with safety procedures, or delays due to the availability or operational restrictions of harbour facilities, or to having to wait for the arrival of other public transport connections.
2 New performance measure for 2003-2004 covering the number of timetabled sailings actually operated net of any relief events agreed by the Scottish Executive.
3 Covers CalMac's punctuality performance against its published timetable net of any relief events. Performance measure was previously called Quality of Service.
4 NorthLink Ferries started operating its services on 1st October 2002. Its figures for 2002-03 therefore cover only a period of six months.
5 "Reliability" = voyages which were completed to the final destination port.
"Punctuality" = services which arrived at their final destination within 20 minutes (Pentland Firth) or 1.5 hours (Aberdeen routes) of the scheduled time.
In both cases, these are net of any relief events agreed by the Scottish Executive, including the unavailability of the new Scrabster pier until September 2003 and operational restrictions at Kirkwall (Hatston) pier until February 2003.
These "reliability / punctuality" figures are the percentages of sailings which were both reliable and punctual (net of any relief events).
