SCOTTISH TRANSPORT STATISTICS No 23: 2004 Edition

NEW AND REVISED TABLES AND CHARTS

This note describes the main changes which have been made to the tables and charts in this edition of "Scottish Transport Statistics", in order to provide additional information. It does not mention changes to the statistics which are presented in the tables and charts, for example following the introduction of new methods of collecting the data: such changes are described in the relevant Chapters.

New tables and charts

Summary Table S3 shows cross-border passenger numbers and freight volumes, for some modes of transport;
Table 2.7 shows walking time to the nearest bus stop, and frequency of service;
Table 2.8 shows views on local bus services of those who used them in the past month;
Table 5.6 shows the condition of the local authority road network;
Table 6.5 shows traffic on trunk roads and local authority roads, by Council area;
Table 6.8 shows delays on monitored trunk roads (average time lost per vehicle-kilometre);
Table 6.9 shows whether car drivers' were delayed by congestion and, if so, the time lost;
Table 8.4 shows the passenger journeys to, from and within Scotland;
Table 8.5 shows distances travelled by passengers to Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow;
Table 8.6 shows the ten busiest national rail stations in Scotland;
Table 8.7 shows service punctuality of train operators;
Table 8.8 shows punctuality of ScotRail services;
Table 8.9 shows passengers in excess of capacity for Edinburgh commuter services across the Forth;
Table 8.10 shows rail passengers’ satisfaction with services;
Table 9.8 shows the punctuality of flights at Edinburgh and Glasgow airports;
Table 10.16 shows the reliability and punctuality of some ferry services;
Table 12.16 shows National Travel Survey figures for travel to and from school;
Table 12.21 shows trips made on an average weekday between Scotland and England and Wales;
Table 12.22 shows passenger journeys made under the concessionary fare schemes;
Table 12.23 and Figures 12.1 and 12.2 show telephone calls and web site hits for Traveline Scotland.

Tables which have been revised significantly (e.g.) to provide additional information

Summary Table S1 number of bus and coach vehicles has been dropped, freight lifted by "costal shipping" has been replaced by "coastwise shipping", and "one port" and "inland waterway" have been added.

Table 3.3 has been expanded to include an index of the "road freight intensity" of the Scottish economy;

Table 6.11 has been expanded to show the percentage breakdown of petrol and diesel delivered in Scotland;

Table 10.3 has been replaced by Table 10.5 as it contains the information in Table 10.3 plus some additional information;

Table 10.12 has been extended to show international routes to/from Shetland;

Table 11.11 has been expanded to show the total household expenditure and the percentage which is spent on transport.
