Scottish Transport Statistics No 19 - 2000 Edition

ERRORS IN THE PREVIOUS EDITION

This list covers errors which occurred in the preparation of the tables in "Scottish Transport Statistics". It does not include cases where the statistics now published differ from those in the previous edition, because they have been revised by whoever supplied the figures. Such revisions could occur following more information becoming available, or an improvement in estimation methodology, or the correction of errors in the supplier's own systems. In such cases, the revisions may be mentioned in the text or a footnote to the relevant table, if they are large enough to warrant this.

In addition, as explained in the section on the Comparison of Scotland and Great Britain (or the UK), a few of the series for GB which appeared last year have been replaced by series whose definitions are closer to those of the Scottish series.

We apologise for the following errors which we have found in the previous edition:

1 Summary of Transport in Scotland - the 1998 figure for "Forth Road Bridge" Roads" of 11,323 thousand recorded crossings should have been 10,391 thousand recorded crossings.

2 Summary of Transport in Scotland - the 1991 figure for "Public Road Lengths - All Roads" of 51,924 thousand kilometres should have been 51,923 thousand kilometres.

3 Scotland : GB comparison - the 1992 figure for GB for "Vehicles Licensed" of 24,577 thousand is on the new basis. The table should have shown the "old basis" figure for 1992, which is 24,851 thousand.

4 Table 4.1 - there were three incorrect figures for "Total recorded crossings on all 4 bridges": the 1995 figure of 30,736 thousand should have been 30,726 thousand; the 1996 figure of 31,436 thousand should have been 31,375 thousand; and the 1998 figure of 23,834 thousand should have been 22,902 thousand.

5 Table 4.1 - the following figures for the Forth Road Bridge for 1998 were wrong: the "Private Cars and Commercial Vehicles" figure of 10,391 thousand should have been 9,460 thousand; the "All recorded crossings" figure of 11,323 thousand should have been 10,391 thousand; and the "Average toll" figures of 76.4 pence should have been 83.3 pence.

6 Table 9.5 - two figures were interchanged. The 1998 figure for "Edinburgh" of 8,848 tonnes should have been 14,729 tonnes; and the 1998 figure for "Glasgow" of 14,729 tonnes should have been 8,848 tonnes.

7 Table 11.8 - the 1989-90 figure for "Total grants" of 1,539 thousand should have been 1,600 thousand.

8 Table H3 - there were three incorrect figures for Toll Bridges: the 1995 figure of 30,736 thousand should have been 30,726 thousand; the 1996 figure of 31,436 thousand should have been 31,375 thousand; and the 1998 figure of 23,834 thousand should have been 22,902 thousand.

The tables in this edition include corrected figures. We regret any problems or inconveniences caused by these errors.
