14. Statutory Post Release Supervision and Diversion from Prosecution (table
41 to table 43)
14.1 Information on Statutory Post Release Supervision and Diversion from Prosecution
was introduced to the statistical collection in 2001-02. It is expected that
both the coverage and quality of data on Statutory Post Release Supervision
and Diversion from Prosecution will improve in future years. See
paragraphs 17.10 and 17.11 of the Annex for further background on these
topics.
14.2 Table 41 shows the information available for Statutory Post Release Supervision,
and Home Circumstance Reports, by local authority. A total of 457 Parole licences,
262 Non Parole licences, 58 Extended Sentences, 169 Supervised Release Orders,
112 Life licences and 57 other forms of supervision were reported in 2002-03.
In addition, there was a total of 1,237 Home Circumstance Reports.
14.3 Table 42 gives a breakdown of Statutory Post Release Supervision by gender
for 2002-03. Both Non-Parole and Life licences are more common among males,
with females more likely to receive Supervised Release Orders
14.4 Table 43 presents the information available for Diversion from Prosecution
in 2002-03. A total of 1,849 referrals, 1,723 assessments undertaken, 1,015
cases commenced, 742 cases completed and 199 cases referred to drug treatment/
education were recorded.
