11. Supervised Attendance Orders (table 32 to table 37)
11.1 This section provides information on Supervised Attendance Orders given
between 1 April 2002 and 31 March 2003. See paragraphs
17.8 and 17.9 of the Annex for further background on Supervised Attendance
Orders.
11.2 A total of 2,700 Supervised Attendance Orders were made to 2,327 offenders
in 2002-03, an increase of 4% in orders and 2% in individuals compared to 2001-02.
Eighty four per cent of Supervised Attendance Orders were made in respect of
males.

11.3 The incidence of Supervised Attendance Orders was 7.5 per 10,000 population
in 2002-03. This rate was highest in Angus (28.5), Perth & Kinross (25.9)
and South Ayrshire (21.8), and lowest in Shetland Islands (0.0), where no Supervised
Attendance Orders were given.

11.4 Females receiving Supervised Attendance Orders tended to be older than
males, with 57% of Orders for females and 48% for males being given to offenders
aged over 25 years. Correspondingly, 23% of Orders for males and 13% for females
were made to offenders aged under 21 years.

11.5 The incidence of Supervised Attendance Orders was highest amongst 18 to
20 year olds (25.3 per 10,000 population) and was nearly as common for 21 to
25 year olds (24.7).

11.6 The majority of Supervised Attendance Orders were given by Sheriff Courts
(68%). Females were more likely to receive Supervised Attendance Orders from
District Courts (42%) than males (29%).
