10. Terminations of Probation Orders (tables 30 and 31)
10.1 This section provides information on Probation Orders (including Probation
Orders with a Requirement of Unpaid Work) terminated between 1 April 2002 and
31 March 2003.
10.2 A total of 4,687 Probation Orders were terminated in 2002-03, an increase
of 24% from the 2001-02 total of 3,770. Over half were successfully completed
and a further 6% resulted in early discharges. Twenty nine per cent were terminated
following a breach application. The remaining 13% were terminated for other
reasons (including transfer to another area and death of the offender).

10.3 Females were slightly more likely to complete orders successfully (56%)
than males (52%). Correspondingly, orders were more likely to be terminated
following a breach for males (30%) than for females (26%).
