SCOTTISH TRANSPORT STATISTICS: No 21

NEW AND REVISED TABLES AND CHARTS

This note describes the main changes which have been made to the tables and charts in this edition of "Scottish Transport Statistics", in order to provide additional information. It does not mention changes to the statistics which are presented in the tables and charts, for example following the introduction of new methods of collecting the data: such changes are described in the relevant Chapters.

New tables

  • Table 9.2 - shows passengers on selected domestic routes, to and from certain Scottish airports, for a number of years (replacing the previous edition's Table 9.6, which gave figures for only one year)
  • Table 9.3 - shows international passenger traffic, to and from the main Scottish international airports, by country of origin or destination, for a number of years
  • Table 12.18 - shows Scottish residents' visits abroad, by means of leaving the UK, purpose of visit and area visited, for a number of years

Tables which have been revised, for example to provide additional information

  • Summary tables - now give figures for road accident casualties, rather than the numbers of injury road accidents
  • Chapter 7 - several tables have been revised, as there is now no need to provide any comparisons with the figures for the "baseline" for the casualty reduction targets for the year 2000. Instead:
    • Table 7.1 - now gives separate figures for "built up" and "non-built up" roads;
    • Table 7.2 - now provides the total numbers of accidents for each Police Force for a number of years
    • Table 7.3 - now provides the total number of vehicles of each type for a number of years
    • Table 7.4 - now gives the figures used for the casualty reduction targets for 2010 (child and overall "killed or seriously injured" numbers, and the slight casualty rate per 100 million vehicle-kilometres, for the years for which it is available) and the corresponding 1994-98 averages (the baselines for the new targets).
In addition
  • Table 7.5 - now expresses casualty rates in terms of per thousand population.
  • Table 8.3 - now also provides some figures for ScotRail passenger services, and for ScotRail services other than those which are supported by the Strathclyde Passenger Transport Executive.
  • Table 9.1 - now includes sub-totals for the numbers of passengers by airport group.
  • Table 10.1 - now has a second part, which gives the figures which are available for waterborne freight discharged in Scotland.
  • Historical Series Table H2 - now includes figures for coastwise shipping and, in a separate part, provides figures for freight moved (tonne-kilometres).
  • Historical Series Table H3 - now gives figures for road accident casualties, rather than the numbers of injury road accidents.
