Staff of Scottish Local Authority Social Work Services, 2000

4. Staff by Type of Activity/ Location

4.1 This section provides information on the number (WTE) of staff by type of activity/ location (see Annex, paragraph 7.12).

4.2 Over one quarter of staff employed by Scottish Local Authority Social Work Services in October 2000 were domiciliary staff (mainly home carers) and one quarter were fieldwork staff. A further 17% worked in residential establishments for adults and 10% were located in day centres for adults.

4.3 It should be noted that changes in the number of staff by type of activity/ location may have resulted from changes in the organisational structures of Social Work Services and from differences in the forms used to collect data (see Annex, paragraph 7.9). Care should therefore be taken in the interpretation of trends.
