1 Disabled People includes people with all disabilities, not just physically disabled people.
2 Figures from 1999 used as 2000 returns are outstanding.
3 Please note the rates refer to total dwellings per 1000 population aged 16-64 and not the bed spaces within these dwellings and therefore need to be interpreted with caution.

Table 4.6 shows the number of special needs housing dwellings for disabled people in each local authority.

In Scotland as a whole almost half (49 per cent) of the 23,726 dwellings are for the ambulant disabled while only 12 per cent are wheelchair housing. In 5 local authorities wheelchair housing is the only type of dwelling; East Ayrshire, East Dunbartonshire, East Renfrewshire, North Lanarkshire and South Ayrshire. In contrast, 92 per cent of the dwellings in Glasgow are for ambulant disabled and in Dundee City 95 per cent are other specially adapted dwellings.

Dundee City has the highest number of dwellings (48) for disabled people for every 1,000 of the population aged between 16 and 64. The rate for Scotland is 7 dwellings for physically disabled people for every 1,000 of the population aged between 16 and 64.
