Chart 4.1 illustrates the balance of care provided to physically disabled people over time. The number of special needs housing dwellings rose considerably between 1980 and 1990. The number dipped in 1998 and has been following an upward trend since.
The number of people attending day centres has more than doubled over the period, whilst the number of residents in residential care homes has also increased. Data on home care clients and residents in nursing homes with physical disabilities have not been collected for long enough to allow comment on any trends.
