A client group split is not available when analysing the number of homes and places in private nursing homes. Only resident numbers can be split by client group.
Chapter 1 has more detailed analysis on nursing home provision for all client groups. Please refer to annex A for definitions on which data are collected.

Table 3.13 presents an age breakdown of residents with mental health problems in private nursing homes between 1997 and 2000. A client group breakdown is only available from 1997 onwards.
The total number of residents with mental health problems in private nursing homes has decreased over the period, with a slight upturn in numbers in 2000. In all years the majority of residents have been within the 75-84 age group. In the same period an average of 82 per cent of all residents were aged 65 and over.
