Private Nursing Homes

A client group split is not available when analysing the number of homes and places in private nursing homes. Only resident numbers can be split by client group. Chapter 1 has more detailed analysis on nursing home provision for all client groups. Please refer to annex A for definitions on which data are collected.

Table 4.15 presents an age breakdown of physically disabled residents in private nursing homes between 1997 and 1999. A client group breakdown is not available prior to 1997.

The number of residents has been increasing steadily over the three year period to 2,549 in 1999. The majority of residents (66 per cent) are aged 75 and over with over half of those aged over 85. Only 19 per cent of physically disabled residents were under 65 years of age.
