Private Nursing Homes
A client group split is not available when analysing the number of homes and places in private nursing homes. Only resident numbers can be split by client group. Chapter 1 has more detailed analysis on nursing home provision for all client groups. Please refer to annex A for definitions on which data are collected.

Table 3.13 presents an age breakdown of residents with mental health problems in private nursing homes between 1997 and 1999. A client group breakdown is only available from 1997 onwards.
The total number of residents with mental health problems in private nursing homes has decreased over the three year period. In all three years the majority of residents have been within the 75-84 age group. In the same period an average of 82 per cent of all residents were aged 65 and over.
