7. Preferred or intended uses

7.1 Planning authorities were asked to indicate up to three preferred or intended uses for sites as defined in the most recent local plan or other local authority documents. The distribution of primary preferences is shown in Table 12.

7.2 The most popular preferred or intended future uses for derelict land, where known, were for Other General Industry (18 per cent), Agriculture (17 per cent) and Residential use (13 per cent). In the case of vacant land, these were Residential use (31 per cent), Manufacturing (17 per cent) and Other General Industry (12 per cent). Preferred or intended future uses are shown in Chart 5.
