Scottish Household Survey: Bulletin No 3

6 Living in Scotland - summary tables

This section consists of summary tables, which will be updated and repeated in subsequent bulletins, to provide the reader with a set of key figures from the survey that can easily be referred to.

These summary tables update the figures previously reported in SHS Bulletin No. 2 based on data collected in the first two quarters of 1999. The next Bulletin in the SHS series will update these figures based on data collected in quarters 1, 2 and 3 of 1999.

The figures in the tables are the percentages of people or households with the relevant characteristic. For example, the first row of Table A shows that 47% of people living in Scottish [private] households are male. All the percentages are calculated after the sample numbers have been reweighted as described in section 7. The last row shows that there was a total (unweighted) of 15,330 people in the surveyed households.

Similarly, the first row of Table B shows that 16% of Scottish [private] households consist of a single adult, with no children. The last row of Table B shows that a total (unweighted) of 6,546 households were interviewed in the survey.

In Table G, the first row shows that 76% of men (aged 17+), and 72% of adults aged 25-34, hold a full driving licence. And the last row shows that interviews were held with a total (unweighted) of 6,150 randomly-chosen adults.
