Secretary of State announces re-appointments to Scottish Tourist Board

Scottish Secretary Donald Dewar today announced the re-appointment of Dr James Hunter and Mr Peter Lederer as members of the Scottish Tourist Board.
Mr Dewar said:
"I am delighted that Jim Hunter and Peter Lederer have agreed to serve second terms as members of the Scottish Tourist Board. Both have been keen, able and effective members and I know that the STB's new Chairman, Lord Gordon of Strathblane, will welcome their continued service to the Board.
"I am grateful to Peter Fairlie and Scott Grier, who are retiring as members when their present terms finish on 30 September. They can take pride in their involvement in the activities of a Board which has overseen an excellent performance from the tourism industry in recent years."
BACKGROUND
1. The Scottish Tourist Board comprises a Chairman and six members, all part-time. The Chairman receives a salary of £19,023 and other Board members a salary of £6,967. The present terms of office for Peter Fairlie, Scott Grier, James Hunter and Peter Lederer all end on 30 September 1998.
2. James Hunter (49), is a freelance historian, broadcaster and consultant. He is also chairman of Skye and Lochalsh Enterprise, and a member of the North Areas Board of Scottish Natural Heritage. He is married, and has two children.
3. Peter Lederer (48) is Managing Director of Gleneagles Hotel plc. Other appointments include as Director of Connoisseurs Scotland and as a member of ASCETT (the Advisory Scottish Council for Education and Training Targets). Mr Lederer also chairs Tourism Training Scotland, which is a public/private sector partnership to promote skills and professionalism within the tourism industry in Scotland. Mr Lederer is married and also has two children.
4. Neither Dr Hunter nor Mr Lederer have undertaken political activity in the last five years.
5. Ministers will confirm the length of appointment for Dr Hunter and Mr Lederer in due course.
