Equality Strategy: Working together for Equality
Minister's
foreword
Our vision is for a just and inclusive Scotland. A Scotland where everyone
has the opportunity to fulfil their potential.
But we cannot achieve this while there is prejudice and discrimination, poverty
and alienation, and while many people in Scotland's communities are excluded.
To make a difference, we must address these issues. We are determined to tackle
discrimination and disadvantage, to foster respect for the diversity of the
people of Scotland, and to forge new partnerships for change.
Working Together for Equality outlines how we will take this
task forward. It demonstrates our commitment to achieve real change and improvement.
We have consulted with many groups and individuals across Scotland, and our
strategy draws on what we have learned from them. It builds on the hard work
and commitment of those people who, for many years, have sought to progress
equality. We will now deliver it in partnership.
We intend that it will bring real, long-term change to the culture and approach
of the Executive. It will drive forward the integration of equality into our
policies, services and spending plans. It will help us to embrace diversity
in our role as an employer.
We also intend that it will influence change across the public sector and beyond.
This is modern government in practice. Modern government - working together
for equality - improving the lives of the people of Scotland.
