The SPS population and accommodation report identifies the design capacity
for the whole of the estate as 6,369 plus 130 places of temporary accommodation
(Barlinnie 76, Edinburgh 46, Polmont 8) giving a grand total of 6,499.
However, with 104 places out of use for policy reasons and a further
256 temporarily out of use for refurbishment, the available capacity
was actually 6,139 for an average population of 5,974.
