Feasibility Study for a victim and witness support service in Scotland7 Next steps7.1 The impact of the service7.1.1 The main impact of the proposed service will be to improve the quality and range of services offered to victims and witnesses, and as a result to improve their ability to give evidence, and to make the process of participating in the criminal justice process less painful and traumatic. The impact will also be to achieve a greater coordination of activity in the services offered to victims and witnesses, as illustrated in the following diagrams.

Circulate, discuss, agree report; Victim Steering Group to consider strategic direction; develop operational and funding plans for pilots |

Months 2-3 |
Plan pilot studies to test cost model, operational procedures and impact; three pilots proposed; seek Ministerial approval |

Months 4-5 |
Hold national workshop of practitioners in both statutory and voluntary sectors to seek consensus on approach and contribution; complete detailed planning of pilots - identify areas in which specific benefits can be achieved |

Pilots; undertake evaluation on continuing basis; undertake research to improve basis of cost model |

Develop detailed planning of service from intermediate outputs from pilots; develop detailed costs, and business case |
