The Development of a Policy on Architecture for Scotland:
Report on the Public Consultation
FOREWORD

When the framework document, The Development of a Policy on Architecture
for Scotland, was launched in September 1999, the Executive said that it
wanted the development of policy to be an inclusive process. We recognised that
a national policy on architecture could not be developed or made effective without
the involvement, commitment and co-operation of a wide constituency of interests.
That is why we undertook to consult as widely as possible on what was set out
in the framework document.
A range of organisations and individuals has responded to the framework document
and I have been impressed by the diversity of views and comments that have been
submitted to us. Respondents' submissions have been both detailed and thoughtful
and I am grateful to all those who took the time to participate in the consultation
process. The consultation has produced a wealth of ideas that will contribute
greatly to the development and implementation of policy.

Allan Wilson
Deputy Minister for Sport and Culture
