Maths Year 2000 Scotland: Resource Packs for Primary and Secondary Schools
Why does Maths Matter?Everyone needs some knowledge and understanding of maths to get along in life. We all need to be able to do basic arithmetic and to understand size, shape and proportion. Simple maths is used every day, by everyone - in shops, at home, at work and at play - to help them make decisions. Without maths, those decisions are far harder. In this increasingly information-driven age, we need to make more and more decisions based on numbers, statistics and probabilities. We need maths skills when, for example, choosing financial products or interpreting the latest health scare information in the newspaper. Maths matters - now more than ever before. Maths Year 2000 in ScotlandMaths Year 2000 Scotland is here to change negative attitudes to figures and dispel the myths about maths being too difficult. Maths is relevant, accessible and can be enjoyable. For too long negative attitudes towards maths have held people back. We want Maths Year 2000 to create a positive, can-do culture towards maths.
