On occasions, assessment procedures will be initiated and a Record of Needs considered for a child or young person whose parent(s) may be serving in the armed forces and who is receiving or is likely to receive education under the auspices of Service Children's Education (SCE). As a matter of good practice, the education authority should seek the parent's consent to SCE being told of the intention to assess the child or young person. This will alert SCE to the identity of those with special educational needs. Copying Record to SCE 203. An education authority has power (under regulation 4(a) of the Education (Record of Needs) (Scotland) Regulations 1982) with the parent's or, as appropriate, the young person's consent to send a copy of a Record of Needs to SCE. It is recommended therefore that education authorities should actively seek such consent and copy Records to SCE where appropriate. SCE may, on occasion, wish to obtain further information about the child's or young person's individual needs and it would seem to be good practice for education authorities to assist with such enquiries in any way they can. < Previous | Contents | Next > |
