Note: These numbers are based on 1998 estimates of social renting. 1980 stock has been estimated by adding back in RTB sales and subtracting approved new rental units (new build and rehabilitated) provided by housing associations between 1980 and March 1999. Pre-1996 local authority sales and approvals have been allocated on a whole authority basis to post-1996 unitary local authorities.
