Examination Results in Scottish Schools 1997-99

8. Education Authority Averages

The table below draws together the average figures for all education authorities. These authorities came into operation on the 1st of April 1996 and the data refers to pupils at schools which came under the control of the new authorities from that date.

The layout of the table is exactly the same as for the school tables in Part 1 except that the roll given is the school roll for all secondary schools in the education authority.

All SQA data for 1999 relate to performance before results of appeals are known. Figures may rise as a result of the appeals process. In the next publication, 1999 data will be amended to reflect the post-appeal figures. Similarly, 1999 NC data are provisional.

Further details on the kinds of data included and on the basis for all calculations are given in Part 3.

Note 2: Basis of calculations

i) Standard Grade basis is the % of pupils on the education authority's S4 roll for the stated session at the time of the annual school census in September.

ii) Higher Grade basis is the % of pupils on the education authority's September S4 roll for the previous session.

iii) CSYS and Higher Grades in S6 basis is the % of pupils on the education authority's September S4 roll for the session two years previously.

iv) The staying on rate to S5 is the % of the education authority's September S4 roll who are estimated to remain at school after Christmas in S5.
