The table shows the commitment each Health Board has made in their local Patient’s Charter to providing treatment for patients within a guarantee period.

The figures in parentheses show the guarantees Health Boards have given on the maximum time patients should wait where the treatment is to take place outside the Health Board’s locally defined providers (* indicates various).

The guarantees which apply to patients are those which are in effect when the hospital receives a referral request. In some cases these may differ from those presented which relate to the period 1 April 1998 to 31 March 1999. Patients may also be exempt from the guarantee.

Only referrals from general medical practitioners (GMPs) or general dental practitioners (GDPs) have been included in order to more accurately present information on the "normal" referral pattern experienced by patients. Figures shown in blue are at least five percentage points higher than in the previous year, and figures in red are at least five percentage points lower.

Patients with guarantee exceptions are included in the analysis as being within the guarantee period.

Any patient whose length of wait is not known are excluded.

Information shown relates to Scottish residents only.
