Overall, 26% of the population aged over 16 reported having a limiting illness, health problem or disability, although this is more common among older people. Forty two per cent of people aged between 60-74 years and 50% aged 75 and over reported having a limiting illness, health problem or disability. This compares with 11% of people aged 16-24 years (Table 14).
Thirty per cent of the adult population smokes cigarettes nowadays. This ranges from 14% of those aged 75 or over to 36% of those aged 25-34.
Perceptions of health
Overall, 15% of adults described their health as 'not good' (Table 14). Among people reporting a limiting illness, health problem or disability, this rose to 46% (no table).
More non-smokers (55%) than smokers (47%) described their health as 'good', though smokers are only slightly more likely to say they feel that their health is 'not good' - 19%, compared with 14% of non-smokers (no table).
