3. WHERE CAN I OBTAIN ADVICE?

As a first step, you can ask for advice from, for example:

• a solicitor;
• an office of Citizens Advice Scotland;
• any appropriate advice centre;
• your local sheriff clerk's office (or the equivalent office in the Court of Session if appropriate); and
• Courts Group (a division of the Scottish Executive Justice Department)

Staff at Courts Group will be able to give you advice on your options and then continue giving you advice while your claim proceeds. Your local sheriff clerk's office (or the equivalent office in the Court of Session if appropriate) may also be able to give you some guidance. At some point you may need legal advice and for that purpose you should consult a specialist solicitor. The Law Society of Scotland will help you to find one if necessary. Their address and telephone number can be found at Annex B in this booklet.

If you need to consult a solicitor you may be entitled to legal aid.
