1. Figures may not sum due to rounding.
Following local government reorganisation North Lanarkshire found that the definition of vacant and derelict land had not been applied consistently throughout their authority. In 1998, staff from North Lanarkshire revisited their sites and identified 157 sites (315 hectares) recorded in the 1997 survey which did not fully accord with the definition. These have been removed from the 1998 survey. (In 1999 North Lanarkshire expect to identify additional sites of vacant and derelict land which have not previously identified.)
As it is not always known when the site should have been removed for definitional reasons, these sites have not been removed from the figures shown for previous years.
