3.1 It can be seen from Table 5 that, of the owners who were known, the most significant grouping of vacant land was in private ownership (47 per cent), whilst for derelict land this proportion was higher (67 per cent). Only 6 per cent of vacant or derelict land had more than one owner.

3.2 Table 6 shows vacant and derelict land by ownership. The largest known owners of vacant and derelict land are Local Authorities with 2,260 hectares (19 per cent); followed by Private Coal Companies with 444 hectares (4 per cent).
