8. School leavers with Certificate of Sixth Year Studies

8.1 In 1997-98, The percentage of all leavers who had taken a Certificate of Sixth Year Studies (CSYS) was 13 per cent compared with 9 per cent in 1987-88. In terms of leavers from S6, 28 per cent had attempted a CSYS in 1997-98, slightly lower than in previous years. Since 1994-95, the percentage of girls leaving from S6 who had taken a CSYS was higher than for boys. In 1997-98, 29 per cent of girls leaving from S6 had taken a CSYS compared with 26 per cent of boys.
