Subjects taken at Higher Grade for pupils at S5 stage in 1997-98
4.2 The following table shows the number and band for Higher Grades passed at the S5 stage. The highest number of passes was in English (16,846), followed by Mathematics (10,101), equivalent to 26 per cent and 16 per cent respectively of the relevant S4 cohort. For science, 9 per cent of the S4 cohort gained a Higher pass in Chemistry and the same percentage gained a Higher pass in Physics; 7 per cent gained a Higher pass in Biology.
