Notes on Tables
10.1 Cases are analysed by the year in which the household applied to the authority, not that in which the case was concluded.
10.2 Information in the tables for the years up to and including 1989-90 is taken directly from the local authorities case returns. From 1990-91 onwards information from the authorities case returns is grossed up so that the total number of applications, on the whole, is equal to the numbers supplied on the authorities quarterly returns. Since the resulting figures are, therefore, estimates, the numbers are rounded to the nearest hundred. (See paragraphs 11.5 to 11.7 of the Annex).
10.3 The grossing up of HL1 figures applies only to the national figures presented in the tables. Most of the figures given for the individual local authorities are the actual HL1 figures, and this is footnoted on the tables (See paragraph 11.9 of the Annex). To facilitate comparisons between authorities, most of the local authority tables are presented in the form of percentages. However, where the number of applications is small the percentage figures should be treated with caution.
10.4 Due to the fact that the national figures, from 1990-91, are rounded, figures may not sum to the totals given, since the totals are based on the unrounded figures.
10.5 All percentages are also based on unrounded figures, and so cannot necessarily be derived from the numbers in the tables.
10.6 The figures for the total number of applications made to East Dunbartonshire council has been amended since publication of the application figures in the quarterly housing trends bulletin in March 1999. A figure of 507 was published in March, which the council has since amended to 440 (the amendment being to the number of applications in the second quarter of 1997-98). This has affected the total number of applications in Scotland, which in March was published as 43,118, and has been corrected to 43,051 in tables 3 and 4 of this bulletin.
