4. Key Targets

4.1 The Secretary of State set 5 key targets for the Agency during 1998-99. These derive from a range of operational targets against which the Agency's workload and performance is monitored.

4.2 The Agency's performance against key targets since 1995-96 is set out in the table below:

Key Ministerial Targets

Targets for 1999-2000

• Ensure each award/transfer payment is accurate.
• Pay on time the pensions comprising the monthly Scottish Teachers' Superannuation Schemes' (STSS) pay roll.
• Pay new pensions and associated lump sums on time (where thetarget date for receipt of claims is met).
• Issue active members of the STSS with a benefit statement.
• Collect contributions from both NHS and Teachers' employerswithin the prescribed periods.
• Reduce total identified operating costs per member/beneficiaryfor basic services by 5% in real terms.
• Implement all main elements of new computer system.
