R1.1 This Part sets out the required standards for Regulations 30 and 31.
R1.2 The standards in R2 apply to a building of purpose group 1.
R1.3 The standards in R3 apply to all dungsteads and farm effluent tanks.
BUILDINGS OF PURPOSE GROUP 1
R2.1* A building of purpose group 1 must be provided with solid waste storage accommodation, as specified in the table to this standard, and constructed in accordance with R2.7 to R2.9 -

R2.2 Private, solid waste storage accommodation, for the storage of individual containers for each dwelling, must be provided -
a. by a separate enclosed structure for each dwelling which may be within, attached to, or separate from, the dwelling and may be grouped with similar stores for other dwellings; or
b. if it is for an individual dwelling, by an unenclosed container stance of impervious material at least 600mm x 600mm in area.
R2.3* Communal solid waste storage accommodation for the storage of containers from more than one dwelling may be an enclosed building, or part of a building, complying with R2.7 to R2.9.
R2.4* A container chamber used in connection with a chute system must be adequate for its purpose.
R2.5 The distance solid waste has to be carried from the entrance door of a dwelling to the storage accommodation provided for the dwelling, or to the hopper where a chute is installed, must not exceed 30m. This distance is measured along the centre line of any corridor, landing, or access path but the distance downward along the pitch line of any stair is excluded.
R2.6* Suitable access to storage accommodation must be provided for collection purposes, according to the type of container, as specified in the table to this standard -

Notes:
1. BULK CONTAINER means a moveable container of more than 1m3 capacity in which waste is stored awaiting collection.
COMMUNAL CONTAINER means a moveable container of not more than 1m3 capacity, provided for shared use, in which waste is stored awaiting collection.
INDIVIDUAL CONTAINER means a container of not more than 0.25m3 capacity in which waste is stored awaiting collection and includes a dustbin or a disposable sack and holder.
2. Includes waste mechanically compacted into readily transportable units.
SOLID WASTE STORAGE ACCOMMODATION
R2.7* The storage capacity of the accommodation must be adequate for the purpose having regard to the volume and nature of the waste and to the size and type of container to be used.
R2.8 All storage accommodation must permit easy removal and replacement of containers and be easy to clean.
R2.9* Communal storage accommodation must also have adequate headroom, ventilation and artificial lighting.
CONSTRUCTION AND PLACING
R3.1 A dungstead or farm effluent tank (including a slurry or silage effluent tank) must be constructed so as to resist the passage of moisture.
R3.2 A dungstead or farm effluent tank must be placed -
a. not less than 15m from any dwelling or food premises; and
b. so as not to endanger any water supply or watercourse.
R3.3 A dungstead must be properly drained.
SAFETY
R3.4* A farm effluent tank must be either suitably covered or fenced in. If covered, it must have provision for ventilation and be constructed with means of access for cleaning and inspection.
