SHARED RESIDENTIAL ACCOMMODATION OF PURPOSE SUB-GROUP 2B
D7.1 Where a building provides shared residential accommodation any wall or floor must be constructed as if it were a separating wall or a separating floor (see Table 2 to D2.1), and -
a. provide at least 30 minutes fire resistance for integrity and insulation from both sides between -
i. each unit of sleeping accommodation,
ii. each unit of sleeping accommodation and any common circulation space or protected zone, except -
a wall between each unit of sleeping accommodation need only extend to at least above ceiling level where a ceiling between a unit of sleeping accommodation and a roof space or a ceiling void provides at least 30 minutes fire resistance for integrity and insulation from the underside and the junction between the ceiling and the wall is fire-stopped.
b. every door giving access to a unit of sleeping accommodation, a common circulation space, a protected zone or a communal space must be a fire door.
SINGLE STOREY BUILDING, OR COMPARTMENT OF SINGLE STOREY BUILDING, OF PURPOSE GROUP 4 (SHOPS AND COMMERCIAL)
D7.2* A single storey compartment of a building, not containing a gallery or a shopping mall with a floor area greater than 5600m2 and/or a cubic capacity greater than 14200m3 must be provided with a suitable system of automatic smoke exhaust, except to ancillary accommodation which is separated from the principal accommodation by a wall or glazed screen extending from the floor of the storey to the underside of the roof. The requirements of D2.1 shall apply to any element of structure of the building which is required by D2.1 to be fire resisting as if the undivided single storey compartment of the building did not exceed 14200m3.
ENCLOSED SHOPPING CENTRES WITH MALLS
D7.3 Enclosed shopping centres with malls must be designed so that the mall width must at no part be less than 6 metres and any frontage designed so as to project into the mall space must not protrude more than 800mm into the mall.
D7.4 Enclosed shopping centres with malls must be designed so that if shops having mall-level storey areas greater than 2000m2, are opposite each other, then at least one must be separated from the mall by a compartment wall.
Note:
In this standard opposing shop frontages opposite each other are those which make an angle of less than 80 degrees with each other.
D7.5* Enclosed shopping centres with a mall on two or more storeys or having a total storey area greater than 5600m2 must be provided with a suitable system of automatic smoke exhaust in the mall, and in every shop (or shop compartment) exceeding 1300m2 in area having a frontage or aperture to the mall.
