3. Ownership of vacant and derelict land 3.1 It can be seen from Table 5 that, of the owners who were known, the most significant grouping of vacant land was in private ownership (49 per cent), whilst for derelict land this proportion was higher (68 per cent). Only 6 per cent of vacant or derelict land had more than one type of owner. Table 5: Ownership of vacant and derelict land 3.2 Table 6 shows vacant and derelict land by ownership. The largest known owners of vacant and derelict land are Local Authorities with 2,409 hectares (19.2 per cent); followed by Scottish Coal with 505 hectares (4.0 per cent).
