In general, there was a problem with very faint gridlines on many of the charts. In addition, the following errors occurred.

1. Figure 1.1 - The vertical axis should not have been labelled `Thousands'.

2. Table 1.4 (a) - Wrongly had the same groups of years in the headings as Table 1.4(b). The years in the headings of Table 1.4(a) should have been:

pre-1981 1981-1985 1986-1990 1991-1995

3. Table 1.11 - The columns headed "Numbers" should not have been labelled "Thousands".

4. Figure 3.2 - The scale of the "Goods lifted within Scotland" figure was wrongly shown as `0, 1250, 3750, 5000'. It should have read `0, 12,500, 25,000, 37,500, 50,000'.

5 Table 3.2 - The 1996 figure of 0.640 for "Goods leaving to outwith GB" should be 0.616.

6. Table 4.1 - The 1994 figure of 43.6 for "Average toll at 1996 prices" on the Forth Road Bridge should be 45.6.

7. Table 7.3 - The percentage change for "Light goods: slight" of - 14.7 should have been -21.9.

8. Table 9.1 - The 1988 and 1989 figures for "Aircraft Movements" were incorrect, corrected figures appear in this edition.

9. Table 10.3 - Did not have any units specified. The figures are "thousand tonnes".

10. Table 10.11 - The figures for both "Caledonian MacBrayne" (Commercial vehicles) and "Total Shipping Services" (`vehicles carried') for 1992 to 1995 were incorrect, corrected figures appear in this edition.

11. Table 11.9 - The 1995-96 figure of 2,147 for "Total grants" should be 4,039. Also, most of the figures for "Orkney Islands" were incorrect, corrected figures appear in this edition.

12. Table 11.10 - Due to a problem in the spreadsheet provided last year, most of the figures for `Petrol' (`Duty' and `VAT') were incorrect, corrected figures appear in this edition.

13. Summary - The figures for "Rail Services" "Passenger Receipts" were incorrect, corrected figures appear in this edition.
