1 The decrease in the number of offences in which a firearm was alleged to have been used in 1997, may be partly attributable to the legislative changes made. This decrease may also reflect measures taken by all Scottish police forces to discourage criminal activity involving firearms in an attempt to improve public safety.
2 From 1988 crossbows were included in this category.
