7 household income and expenditure
  • Average gross weekly earnings of full-time male employees in 1997 were over £100 more than for females. (Table 7A1)
  • About 12% of full-time male employees, and 31% of full-time female employees earned less than £200 per week (gross). (Table 7A2)
  • The average weekly disposable income per household for Scotland in 1996-97 was about £20 less than the UK average. (Table 7B1)
  • The percentage of households in Scotland with weekly gross income under £125 in 1996-97 was about 2% higher than in the UK as a whole. (Table 7B2)
  • In 1996-97 households in Scotland spent on average £13.55 and £28.19 per week on leisure goods and leisure services compared with £15.17 and £33.95 respectively in the UK as a whole. (Table 7B4)
