Includes cost of collection of NHS contributions.
For 1995/96 this is the amount which the Exchequer met by way of Class XIV votes 13, 14 and the health element of Class XIV, vote 12.
Previous years’ figures are comparable to 1994/95, but prior to 1980/81 the sources may be more extensive.
From 1991/92 some functions, previously regarded as health board administration, were devolved to Directly Managed Units (DMUs) or NHS Trusts.
Responsibility for purchasing certain specialised services (eg liver and heart transplants, HIV/AIDS services, and prevention of drug misuse and its treatment) was transferred from health boards to the National Services Division on 1 April 1993.
Includes Port Health which is charged to Local Authority in National Accounts.
