10.1 The following results on reuse of vacant and derelict land should be treated with caution. This part of the 1996 survey recorded sites being reclaimed or brought back into use, and also provided for the deletion of site records owing to definitional change. One hundred and twenty sites (380 hectares) were removed from the survey for definitional reasons, these have been omitted from the following tables, but can be found in the Annex.

10.2 Between 1995 and 1996, the total area of land reclaimed or brought back into use, excluding sites removed for definitional reasons, was 688 hectares comprising 606 sites. Forty three per cent of this area was derelict land that was reclaimed, of which thirty eight percent was in North Lanarkshire, and 20 per cent was in South Lanarkshire. Of the vacant land that was brought back into use (395 hectares), 21 per cent was in Glasgow and 9 per cent each in Dundee, North Lanarkshire and Falkirk.
10.3 The new use of sites, or parts of sites, being reclaimed or brought back into use was also recorded in the 1996 survey and can be seen, excluding sites removed for definitional reasons, in Table 18.
