3.1 It can be seen from Table 5 that, of the owners who were known, the most significant grouping of vacant land was in private ownership (47 per cent), whilst for derelict land this proportion was higher (61 per cent). Only 6 per cent of both types of land had more than one owner.

3.2 Table 6 shows vacant and derelict land by ownership. The largest known owners of vacant and derelict land are New Local Authorities with 2427 hectares (18.5 per cent); followed by British Coal with 865 hectares (6.6 per cent).
